UNHCR's Angelina Jolie, on visit to Mynamar, meets Rohingya Muslim representatives in Yagon -
UNITED NATIONS, Aug 1 (APP): During her just-concluded 4-day visit to Myanmar, UNHCR Special Envoy Angelina Jolie met with representatives of Rohingya Muslims, the South-East Asian country's persecuted minority community,  in Yangon on Friday, according to a UN press release and media reports.

US appreciates Pakistan's constructive role in Afghan reconciliation process -
Washington, July 31 (APP): Appreciating Pakistan's constructive role in the Afghan reconciliation process, a U.S. State Department spokesman on Thursday encouraged the Taliban to seize a 'moment of opportunity' to make genuine peace and become part of the legitimate political system of Afghanistan.

UNITED NATIONS, July 31 (APP): Senior diplomats and UN officials at a highly appreciated Pakistan-sponsored panel discussion on the plight of refugees and migrants Thursday called for addressing the root causes of the massive human movements -- conflicts, persecution and poverty -- in a bid to end this grave humanitarian crisis.


World population to reach 8.5 billion by 2030, driven by growth in developing countries: UN -
UNITED NATIONS, July 30 (APP): The world's population is projected to reach 8.5 billion by 2030, 9.7 billion by 2050 and exceed 11 billion in 2100, with India expected to surpass China as the most populous around seven years from now and Nigeria overtaking the United States to become the world's third largest country around 35 years from now, according to a new United Nations report.

Pakistanis abroad celebrate Independence Day with zeal PDF Print E-mail
ISLAMABAD, Aug 14 (APP): The country’s 65th Independence Day was celebrated across the world with millions of Pakistani expatriates joining by unfurling the green and white flag and singing the national anthem in a show of unity and strength. Formal flag hoisting celebrations were held at all the Pakistan embassies and Consulates, and the people hoisted the national flag at their homes and businesses abroad.
Messages of formal ceremonies were received from Berlin, Paris, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Kabul, Nairobi, Ankara, Jakarta, Singapore, Seoul and many other places.
The national flags were hoisted by the ambassadors as the embassy staff and the Pakistani community living in the respective countries sang the national song. Prayers were offered for security, economic progress and prosperity of Pakistan.
Messages of President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani were read and the young children attired in traditional dresses presented national songs and folk dances.
Pakistan’s Ambassador to Germany Shahid Kamal urged the Pakistani community to maintain unity amongst their ranks and to develop closer ties with the German people to promote friendship between the two countries.
Ambassador of Pakistan to France Shafkat Saeed urged the gathering to renew its pledge to work towards the progress, prosperity and well being of Pakistan .
Charge d’ Affaires Wajid Hassan Hashmi congratulated the community, and prayed for the continued prosperity and to renew their commitment to serve their homeland with great vigour.
High Commissioner of Pakistan to Malaysia Masood Khalid said the day was a reminder to all to protect the hard-won freedom and work for modern and progressive nation. He asked them to be true ambassadors of Pakistan, winning hearts and minds and commanding respect and goodwill through their strength of character and deeds of kindness.
He also lauded the meritorious services of the Pakistanis who achieved distinction and brought laurels for their country through their professional excellence in various fields in Malaysia.
He particularly mentioned distinguished Pakistani Prof Dr.  Muhammad Mumtazuddin Ahmed, present on the occasion, for his outstanding work with the Dental Association of Malaysia and becoming the first Pakistani anywhere to receive the leading Health Professionals Award 2011 conferred on him by the International Biographical Centre, Cambridge, UK.
He also acknowledged the hard work put in by young Asma Iqbal by becoming the first Pakistani Pakistan woman to complete PhD in Infectious Diseases from University of Malaya.  
Ambassador Sohail Mahmood at Bangkok highlighted Quaid-i-Azam’s vision and inspiring leadership that made Pakistan a reality and stressed the importance of unwavering commitment to Quaid’s principles of unity, faith and discipline in addressing all challenges.
Leading Thai newspaper Naew Na carried a special supplement on Pakistan’s Independence Day. Besides focusing on Pakistan-Thailand bilateral relations, it highlighted aspects of Pakistan movement, economy, textile industry, SME sector, and tourism potential.
Charge d’ Affaires Mansoor Ahmad Khan asked the Pakistanis in Kabul to maintain the spirit of independence and purse the cherished objectives of forefathers for making Pakistan strong and prosperous.
The Ambassador of Pakistan Muhammad Haroon Shaukat briefed the Pakistani community about recent developments in Pakistan-Turkey relations and urged them to continue playing active role in bringing the two countries closer.
Ambassador Sanaullah to Indonesia asked the community to follow the vision of Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah to achieve the desired progress and devleopmeng of Pakistan.
High Commmissioner to Singapore Syed Hasan Javed said Pakistan stands tall amongst the comity of nations and has achieved success in several fields. He said it was a hub of investment because of its rich mineral resources and pointed that over 700 multinational companies were operating in Pakistan.
