Pakistan, Qatar ink Long Term Sale Purchase Agreement -
DOHA, Feb 10 (APP): Pakistan and Qatar on Wednesday inked an agreement for supply of around US one billion dollars worth of Liquified Natural Gas to Pakistan annually to help the country meet its energy shortfall. The agreement on Long Term LNG Sale and Purchase was signed during the visit of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif's two day visit to Qatar. Minister for Petroleum Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Chairman of Qatargas Board of Director Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi signed agreement at a ceremony at Diwan-e-Emiri.

app73-10pm-doha.jpgDOHA (Qatar), Feb 10 (APP): Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday said Pakistan is an ideal destination for investors and called upon the Qatar Investment Authority to explore the opportunities in Pakistan's oil and gas sector. The Prime Minister expressed these views in a meeting with Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani held here at the Aiwan-e-Emiri. Prime Minister Sharif said Pakistan and Qatar enjoy strong fraternal relations.



PM gets a warm welcome at Doha -

The Prime Minister and his delegation was received at the Hamad International Airport by Sheikh Abdullah Bin Nasir bin Khalifa Al-Thani, the Prime Minister of Qatar and Dr Muhammad bin Saleh Al-Sada, Minister for Energy.



Upcoming World Humanitarian Summit must help tackle crises:UN chief -
UNITED NATIONS,  Feb 10 (APP): Ahead of the World Humanitarian Summit,  United Nations Secretary-General Ban ki-moon has called for "far greater global leadership" to end conflicts that are driving millions of people from their homes and overwhelming humanitarian organizations."We need to show the millions of people living in conflict" with chronic needs and constant fear "the solidarity that they deserve and expect," the Secretary-General said at the launch of his report, One Humanity: Shared responsibility, for the first-ever World Humanitarian Summit, set for May 23 and 24 in Istanbul, Turkey.



Two Pakistan Americans running for US Congress -
WASHINGTON, Feb. 10 (APP):Two Pakistani Americans are running for US Congress in 2016, as the country enters the crucial race to elect the next President of the United States. Dean H Malik, 44 is a Republican candidate for the 8th Congressional District of Pennsylvania while Ali Mirza, 54, is a Democratic candidate for the 5th Congressional District of New York. Currently Republicans are in control of House of Representatives.

Pakistan Judo team to depart for 12th South Asian Games on Thursday morning
PESHAWAR, Feb 10 (APP): The 15-member Pakistan Judo Federation would depart for India to participate in the ongoing 12th South Asian Games’s judo event on Thursday morning. Talking to APP, Secretary General Pakistan Judo Federation, Masood Ahmad said the Pakistan Judo Team consisting of 4 officials, 1 Technical Official, 6 male and 6 Female Judokas.

 
PCB name Asia Cup, T20 WC squad
ISLAMABAD, Feb 10 (APP): The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Wednesday announced a 15-member squad for the upcoming Asia Cup and Twenty-20 World Cup after assessing players' performances from domestic and A team tours. The PCB Chairman Shaharyar Mohammad Khan approved the squad at the recommendation of National Selection Committee headed by Haroon Rashid, says a press release issued here.
 
Pak female swimmers win bronze in South Asian Games
ISLAMABAD, Feb 9 (APP): Pakistan Swimming Team (Female) won a bronze medal in 4x200 m Freestyle Relay in the South Asian Games at India. The team included swimmers Lianna Kiran, Bisma and Areeba, says a press release issued here.

 
Umar Akmal believes PSL help to perform in Int'l cricket
ISLAMABAD, Feb 9 (APP): Lahore Qalandars star batsman Umar Akmal believes that Pakistan Super League will help him perform well in the Twenty20 format. "PSL is a good step and we hope it will help us in international cricket," said Umar. Umar scored a blistering 93-run knock off just 40 balls against Quetta Gladiators.

 
WAPDA players shine in South Asian Games, clinch 3 gold, 5 silver medals
ISLAMABAD, Feb 9 (APP): The Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) players, who are representing Pakistan, continue to bring laurels for their country in the 12th South Asian Games, being played in India. WAPDA players so far have won 3 gold, 5 silver and 4 bronze medals for Pakistan in different games. According to the details, WAPDA player Nasir Iqbal won gold medal in squash (men's single) while Muhammad Inam and Zaman Anwar clinched gold medals in wrestling.

Firdous Ashiq seeks media help to restore soft image of Pakistan PDF Print E-mail
firdous-media.jpgISLAMABAD, Feb 12 (APP): Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan on Saturday sought media help for restoring the soft image of Pakistan in the international community. The minister was talking to media persons after offering Fateha and laying floral wreath at Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Memorial at Liaquat Bagh, Rawalpindi.She said: “at international level there is a wrong perception about Pakistan, and the government and the media will have to work together to restore the soft and true image of the country.”
She reiterated the PPP government stance that it fully believes in right of freedom of speech and would take all possible steps in this regard.
Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan said that the promotion of inter-faith harmony, grant of rights to minorities, women and the deprived classes were the top priorities of the democratic regime.   
The minister said she has come to the memorial of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto as a party worker and to renew the pledge to continue her mission.
“Shaheed Mohtarma throughout her life struggled for the cause of democracy, and for the rights of the masses and sacrificed her life in this struggle”, said the newly appointed minister who before taking charge of her new ministry visited the site of Shaheed PPP chairperson’s martyrdom.
Dr. Firdous Ashiq said that she was thankful to the President and the Prime Minister who reposed confidence in her and assigned her the Ministry of Information. “With the help of the media I will try to come up to the expectations of the PPP high ups”, she said.
The minister said that the country was facing several problems including terrorism, unemployment, inflation and the government was striving to overcome these problems.
She appealed to the print and electronic media to play constructive role and help the government in resolution of the problems being faced by the country.
The minister also said that media being an important pillar of the state has always played constructive role in promotion of democratic process in the country.
While responding to a question about Pervez Musharraf’s arrest warrants by a court, she said that the matter was sub-judice but the government would assist the court whenever the court issues any direction in this regard.     
A large number of PPP workers including women wing activists were also present on the occasion. On her arrival the minister was greeted with slogans of “Zinda Hai BB Zinda Hai”, and “Jiey Bhutto”.
