Firdous Ashiq seeks media help to restore soft image of Pakistan |

ISLAMABAD, Feb 12 (APP): Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan on Saturday sought media help for restoring the soft image of Pakistan in the international community. The minister was talking to media persons after offering Fateha and laying floral wreath at Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Memorial at Liaquat Bagh, Rawalpindi.She said: “at international level there is a wrong perception about Pakistan, and the government and the media will have to work together to restore the soft and true image of the country.”
She reiterated the PPP government stance that it fully believes in right
of freedom of speech and would take all possible steps in this regard.
Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan said that the promotion of inter-faith harmony,
grant of rights to minorities, women and the deprived classes were the
top priorities of the democratic regime.
The minister said she has come to the memorial of Shaheed Mohtarma
Benazir Bhutto as a party worker and to renew the pledge to continue her
mission.
“Shaheed Mohtarma throughout her life struggled for the cause of
democracy, and for the rights of the masses and sacrificed her life in
this struggle”, said the newly appointed minister who before taking
charge of her new ministry visited the site of Shaheed PPP chairperson’s
martyrdom.
Dr. Firdous Ashiq said that she was thankful to the President and the
Prime Minister who reposed confidence in her and assigned her the
Ministry of Information. “With the help of the media I will try to come
up to the expectations of the PPP high ups”, she said.
The minister said that the country was facing several problems including
terrorism, unemployment, inflation and the government was striving to
overcome these problems.
She appealed to the print and electronic media to play constructive role
and help the government in resolution of the problems being faced by
the country.
The minister also said that media being an important pillar of the state
has always played constructive role in promotion of democratic process
in the country.
While responding to a question about Pervez Musharraf’s arrest warrants
by a court, she said that the matter was sub-judice but the government
would assist the court whenever the court issues any direction in this
regard.
A large number of PPP workers including women wing activists were also
present on the occasion. On her arrival the minister was greeted with
slogans of “Zinda Hai BB Zinda Hai”, and “Jiey Bhutto”.
