Cricket: Rain delays Pakistan’s clash with Scotland

EDINBURGH, May 19, (APP/AFP) - Pakistan’s one-day international against Scotland was delayed on Sunday due to a waterlogged playing surface in Edinburgh. The umpires ordered a 1200GMT pitch inspection at the Grange after taking a close look at the wicket three times before the scheduled start of play. Heavy rain in the Scottish capital on Saturday left areas of the outfield sodden, while there were also worries about the condition of the wicket.

Business community for pursuing effective economic policy

ISLAMABAD, May 20 (APP): Business Community of Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (ICCI) here on Monday urged the new government for giving priority to economy and pursue an effective economic policy to put the country back to track. Addressing the business community Vice President of Confederation of Asia Pacific Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CACCI), Tariq Saeed said that business community should be consulted in upcoming budget making process.

LAHORE, May 20 (APP): President Federation of Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) Zubair Ahmad Malik Monday said that the forthcoming visit of Chinese Premier Li Keqiang to Pakistan would enhance the volume of trade between private sectors of both the countries. The FPCCI Chief while talking to APP Monday said that Pakistan is a paradise for foreign investment and especially there is a vast scope for Chinese private and public sector investment and joint ventures in energy, agriculture, livestock, IT and other sectors.

Shipping activity at Port Qasim

KARACHI, May 19 (APP): No ships arrived at the Port on Saturday, port sources said here on Sunday. Berth occupancy was maintained at 21% at the Port on Saturday where a total of three ships namely M.V KPS-I Alican Bey -Powership, M.V Sargasso Sea, M.V Bella-l are currently occupying berths to load/offload containers, rice. Cargo handling operations were carried out smoothly at the Port where a cargo volume 43124 tonnes comprising 17542 tonnes import, 25582 tonnes export, 381 (Tues) was handled during the last 24 hours.M.V Sargasso Sea sailed on Saturday afternoon, M.V Bella-l sailed on Sunday morning.M.V Alliance Norfolk at Qict, M.V Maersk Detroit at Qict and M.T Heng Xin at LCT arrived on Sunday as per schedule, the port sources further said.
