Cricket: Rain delays Pakistan’s clash with Scotland
EDINBURGH, May 19, (APP/AFP) - Pakistan’s one-day international against Scotland was delayed on Sunday due to a waterlogged playing surface in Edinburgh. The umpires ordered a 1200GMT pitch inspection at the Grange after taking a close look at the wicket three times before the scheduled start of play. Heavy rain in the Scottish capital on Saturday left areas of the outfield sodden, while there were also worries about the condition of the wicket.

Army wins national women cycling title
LAHORE, May 18 (APP): Pakistan Army won the title of the 10th  national women cycling championship here on Saturday at the cycling velodrome. Army’s riders added another gold to their previous four to emerge the winners of the three-day premier event held under the supervision of Pakistan Cycling Federation,Munawar Baseer Group.

Recent spot-fixing scandal has tarnished cricket’s image further: ex-players
ISLAMABAD, May 17 (APP): Former Pakistan cricketers feel that the recent spot-fixing scandal that has rocked ongoing Indian Premier has tarnished the image of the game of cricket. Erstwhile skipper Zaheer Abbas in an interview on Friday said that he was shocked by the scandal involving Indian Test player,  Sreesanth and two others—Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan. “What worries me is that this apparently is just the tip of the iceberg as far as corruption in cricket is concerned. There have always been fears that the IPL was a soft target for bookmakers but no one took this seriously,” he said.

Army wins 9th Korean Ambassador National Taekwondo C’ship
ISLAMABAD, May 17 (APP): Pakistan Army won the 9th Korean Ambassador National Taekwondo Championship by clinching overall 17 gold, three silver and two bronze medals on Friday here at Liaquat Gymnasium. Army secured a total of 507 points. WAPDA remained second with 165 points, securing one gold, six silver and two bronze medals.

National athletics championship dedicated to Zakir Syed
LAHORE, May 17 (APP): Athletics Federation of Pakistan (AFP) has decided to dedicate the 45th edition of the National Athletics Championship in the memory of late Syed Zakir Hussain Syed, a former director general of Pakistan Sports Board. The premier activity, both for men and women, will be organised May 24 at Jinnah stadium Islamabad and all the affiliated units of the AFP will take part, said a spokesman of AFP here on Friday. He said late Zakir rendered meritorious services for the cause of sports in the country and the AFP has decided to dedicate the championship to him to acknowledge his valuable contributions as a sports administrative. “Over 500 athletes belonging to the four provinces, AJ&K, FATA, Gilgit Baltistan and various services and departments will compete in the three-day sports “, he added.

Pakistan and China sign 13 agreements and MoUs in various fields PDF Print E-mail
ISLAMABAD, Dec 18 (APP): Pakistan and China on Friday inked 13 agreements and Memoranda of Understanding on cooperation in economy, energy, banking, security and technology.  Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani and Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao witnessed the signing of documents as the respective ministers and officials of Pakistan and China inked them. The Agreements and MoUs were signed to expand cooperation in the utilization, management, training, educational programmes and modernization of railways and to establish a long term cooperative relationship on the basis of equality and mutual benefits.

ISLAMABAD, Dec 18 (APP): Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao here on Friday said that Pakistan, being an important country in the region, has made positive contribution to peace, stability and development of the region and the world.  “The purpose of my visit this time is to solidify friendship, deepen cooperation, support Pakistan’s efforts of post-disaster reconstruction, and ring in, together with Pakistan, the 60th anniversary of China-Pakistan diplomatic relations in 2011,” Wen said in his arrival statement at the Chaklala Air Base.

Chinese Premier arrives at PM House for talks PDF Print E-mail
ISLAMABAD, Dec 18 (APP): Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao arrived at Prime Minister House to hold talks with Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani. Prime Minister Gilani received the Premier as he arrived along with his delegation. Gilani and Wen warmly shook their hands for a photo-op and proceeded for one-on-one talks.
The two leaders will hold an exclusive meeting to be followed by delegation level talks.

Pakistan, China vow to enhance cooperation in energy, banking, space tech PDF Print E-mail

ISLAMABAD, Dec 18 (APP): Pakistan and China while reiterating resolve to further strengthen their multi-faceted strategic relationship have vowed to enhance cooperation in space technology, banking, energy and communication sectors.The two sides inked 35 agreements; including 13 at the government level and 22 between their private sectors; that are expected to bring around 25 to 30 billion dollars of investment over the next five years.Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani and Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao in their meetings deliberated on a whole range of issues including bilateral matters, regional and international situation and the challenges facing the two countries.

Wen Jiabao accorded warm welcome on arrival PDF Print E-mail
ISLAMABAD, Dec 18 (APP): A warm welcome was accorded to Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao as he arrived here Friday on a three-day official visit aimed at further expanding Sino-Pak economic and trade ties. A red carpet was rolled out for the Chinese Premier as he alighted from the special Air China aircraft. The Chinese Premier’s white Boeing 747 with blue stripes was escorted by four Sino-Pak joint production JF-17 Thunder aircraft, as it crossed the Indian border and touched Chaklala Air Base. Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani warmly received the Chinese Premier at the Air Base as a 21 gun salute boomed.
