Pakistan beat India 1-0 to claim hockey gold in SAG
ISLAMABAD, Feb 12 (APP): Pakistan continued their supremacy in men's hockey in the region as they defeated historical rivals India 1-0 in the summit clash to clinch gold in the 12th South Asian Games (SAG) at the Moullana Tayabullah Hockey Stadium Guwahati, India on Friday. According to information received here, Awais-ur-Rehman scored the lone goal of the match in dying moments of the first half as Pakistan clinched a hat-trick of titles in the SAG.

 
BCCI has banned me without any evidence: Asad Rauf
ISLAMABAD, Feb 12 (APP): Pakistan umpire Asad Rauf Friday hit out at the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for imposing a five-year ban on him for corruption, saying that the Indian Board did not have any evidence to pronounce him guilty. "What authority does the BCCI or IPL have to ban me when the court in Mumbai told the police they had no evidence against me," Rauf asked.

 
World Champion Asif gearing up to regain National Snooker crown
KARACHI, Feb. 12 (APP)- Former IBSF World Amateur Snooker Champion Muhammad Asif was gearing-up to regain his crown in the 41st edition of National Snooker Championship which break-off here from February 15. "Yes I am fully ready to regain my crown after last winning it in 2012," country's premier cueist told APP in an interview on Friday as he prepared to travel to Karachi from Faisalabad to figure in prestigious national event.

 
Zeeshan/Saif steers Pakistan 5th spot in ICC U19 CWC
KARACHI, Feb. 12 (APP)- Pakistan ended its campaign in the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup on a winning note, defeating England by seven wickets in Fatullah on Friday to finish fifth in the 16-nation tournament. Batting duo of opener Zeeshan  Malik and Saif Badar starred in their team's triumph with sizzling batting.

 
TDCP Cholistan Jeep Rally starts
BAHAWALPUR, Feb 12 (APP): Tourism Development Corporation of Punjab (TDCP) 11th Cholistan jeep rally has started here Friday. A total of 80 vehicles have got registered in 8 different categories. Two female drivers are also participating in the event. Qualifying round of the rally will be held on Saturday.

WASHINGTON, Jan 8 (APP): A US State Department spokesman said on Thursday it was for the government of Pakistan to determine how long it will take to investigate the attack on Pathankot air base, following information provided by India. “It’s not for us to ascribe a timeline to somebody else’s investigation. Obviously, in all investigations, you want it to be thorough and you want it to be complete,” spokesman John Kirby told a questioner at a regular briefing.

UNITED NATIONS,  Jan 8 (APP): Condemning the demolition by Israeli authorities of the homes of Palestinian Bedouins in the West Bank, a senior United Nations relief official has called on Israel to end such destruction and halt its plans to forcibly relocate Bedouin families. “The humanitarian consequences of this destruction of property are grave and I am seriously concerned, particularly about the children who are now homeless,” Felipe Sanchez, the Director of West Bank Operations for the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), said in statement on Thursday.

UNITED NATIONS, Jan 7 (APP): Prices of major food commodities declined for the fourth year in a row in 2015, averaging 19.1 per cent below their previous-year's levels, with the dwindling global economy triggering sharp price falls from metals to energy markets,  the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) reported Thursday. FAO's Food Price Index, a trade-weighted index tracking international market prices for five key food commodity groups (major cereals, vegetable oils, dairy, meat and sugar) averaged 164.1 points over 2015 and ended the year even lower, at 154.1 points in December.
 
UN calls for humanitarian access to besieged areas in Syria PDF Print E-mail
UNITED NATIONS, Jan 7 (APP):  The United Nations Thursday called for unimpeded humanitarian access to reach people in need in hard-to-reach and besieged areas of Syria, while welcoming the recent approval by the Government to access the towns of Madaya, Foah and Kefraya. According to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), up to 4.5 million people in the war-torn country live in hard-to-reach areas, including nearly 400,000 in 15 besieged locations that do not have access to the life-saving aid they urgently need. In the last year, only 10 per cent of all requests for UN inter-agency convoys to these areas were approved and delivered.
 
Karachi operation, CPEC bolstering investors' confidence: World Bank PDF Print E-mail
worldbank.jpgWASHINGTON, Jan 7 (APP): Macroeconomic adjustments in Pakistan and efforts to crack down on violent crime in the country's industrial and commercial hub of Karachi are supporting investors' confidence, the World Bank said in its latest report while projecting the economic growth for Pakistan to accelerate to 4.5 percent in the current fiscal year. The Bank, in its report "January 2016 Global Economic Prospects", said the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) agreement, signed last year, had further bolstered investor optimism in the country.
