ISLAMABAD, June 4 (APP): The country’s overall exports recorded a positive growth of 8.0 percent during the first ten months (July-April) of the current fiscal year while in the same period last year, the export witnessed decline of 3.0 percent. In absolute terms, exports have increased from $14,703.3 million to $15,884.1 million in the period, says Economic Survey 2009-10 released by Fiance Division here on Friday. The document says imports during the same period fiscal year declined by 2.8 percent compared with the same period of last year, reaching to $28.1 billion.

ISLAMABAD June 4 (APP): Current account deficit is expected to decline to below three per cent of Gross Domestic Product during the outgoing fiscal year, according to Economic Survey 2009-10 - a pre-budget document. The external current account deficit was contained to 5.6 per cent of GDP (US dollars 9.3 billion) in fiscal 2008-09, from a high of 8.3 per cent of GDP in 2007-08 (US dollars 13.9 billion), added the Survey released here today at a press conference addressed by Advisor to the Prime Minister on Finance Senator Dr Abdul Hafeez Sheikh.

ISLAMABAD, June 4 (APP): Manufacturing sector, the second largest sector of the economy has performed well in the outgoing year with growth rate of 5.2 percent. According to Economic Survey of Pakistan 2009-10 released by the Advisor to Prime Minister on Finance, Dr. Hafeez Shaikh, overall manufacturing posted a positive growth of 5.2 percent during the current fiscal year.

ISLAMABAD, June 4 (APP): The environment challenges and issues of Pakistan are primarily associated with an imbalanced social and economic development and compounded with rapid urbanization due to a shift of population from rural to urban areas in recent decades, says the Economic Survey issued here Friday. According to the Survey, giving a thorough picture of national economy during the outgoing fiscal year 2009-10, all major cities of Pakistan face haphazard, unplanned expansion leading to increase in pollution.
