Cricket: Rain delays Pakistan’s clash with Scotland
EDINBURGH, May 19, (APP/AFP) - Pakistan’s one-day international against
Scotland was delayed on Sunday due to a waterlogged playing surface in Edinburgh.
The umpires ordered a 1200GMT pitch inspection at the Grange after
taking a close look at the wicket three times before the scheduled start of play.
Heavy rain in the Scottish capital on Saturday left areas of the
outfield sodden, while there were also worries about the condition of the wicket.

Final draft to be formulated for better working of media: Dr Firdous
ISLAMABAD, Feb 29 (APP): Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan said on Wednesday that the final draft of code of conduct would be formulated for better working of media.
She said that reviving or amending the code of conduct for media was the need of hour and it would be made in consultation with all the stakeholders.
PM, COAS call on President; Pak-US relations discussed
ISLAMABAD, Feb 29 (APP): Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani
and Chief of Army Staff(COAS), General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani held a meeting
with President Asif Ali Zardari here in the Presidency on Wednesday night.
The meeting was also attended by Foreign Minister Ms. Hina Rabbani Khar and Pakistan’s Ambassador to US Ms Sherry Rehman.
Spokesperson to the President Farhatullah Babar said that the meeting took stock of the Pak-US relations.
UN relief chief deeply disappointed by inability to make assessment visit to Syria
UNITED NATIONS, Feb 29 (APP): The head of United Nations relief operations said
Wednesday that she was ‘deeply disappointed’ that she has not yet been able to
visit Syria to assess the humanitarian situation and meet some of the country’s
top officials.
Valerie Amos, the UN Emergency Relief Coordinator and Under-Secretary-General for
Humanitarian Affairs, issued a statement voicing her disappointment and noting
both her ‘repeated requests’ to meet with top Syrian officials and the need for
unhindered access by aid workers to people affected by the violence.
Cabinet members congratulate PM on convincing electoral victory of Ali Musa Gilani
ISLAMABAD, Feb 29 (APP): The Federal Cabinet, which met here on Wednesday with Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani in chair, congratulated the Prime Minister on the convincing electoral victory of his son Ali Musa Gilani, who secured over 94,000 votes in the recent by-elections in Multan.
The members of the cabinet maintained that the enthusiasm demonstrated by the people in the recent elections not only depicted the success and strength of democratic process,but also the efforts of coalition partners.
