Cricket: Rain delays Pakistan’s clash with Scotland
EDINBURGH, May 19, (APP/AFP) - Pakistan’s one-day international against Scotland was delayed on Sunday due to a waterlogged playing surface in Edinburgh. The umpires ordered a 1200GMT pitch inspection at the Grange after taking a close look at the wicket three times before the scheduled start of play. Heavy rain in the Scottish capital on Saturday left areas of the outfield sodden, while there were also worries about the condition of the wicket.

PM visits Data Darbar PDF Print E-mail
LAHORE, June 29 (APP): Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf on Friday evening visited the Shrine of Hazrat Ali Hajveri (RA), popularly known as Data Sahib and laid a floral wreath. The Prime Minister also offered ‘Dua’. Governor Punjab Sardar Latif Khan Khosa and Punjab Minister for Planning & Development and Energy Chaudhary Abdul Ghafoor accompanied the Prime Minister. Khateeb Jamia Masjid Data Darbar Mufti Ramzan offered Dua for peace, sovereignty and prosperity of the country on the occasion. Later, ‘chaders’ were given to the Prime Minister and other dignitaries by the administration of the Darbar.
 
All banks to remain open on Saturday PDF Print E-mail
ISLAMABAD, June 29 (APP): To help taxpayers in payment of their taxes and duties, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has declared Saturday (June 30), as working day for all banks of the country.According to a statement issued here on Friday, all banks of the country will remain open on Saturday and the clearing time has been extended beyond 10:00 pm. The cash counter timings have also been extended till 12:00 midnight, added the statement.
 
PAC orders Interior Ministry to summon IGP Punjab, KPK over worsening law, order situation PDF Print E-mail
ISLAMABAD, June 29 (APP) : The Public Accounts Committee on Friday ordered Secretary Interior Khawja M. siddiq to summon Inspector General Police (IGP) Punjab and Khyber Pukhtunkhwa over the worsening law and order situation.Noor Alam Khan, Member PAC while condemning the sponsored attacks on the houses of MNAs Chaudhry Zahid Iqbal (PPP), Riaz Fatyana (PML-Q) and Hamid Yar Hiraj (PML-Q), said that police failed to provide security and protection during the attacks.He said that being part of the federation, police failed to protect honour and property  of the parliamentarians from the mob attacks, adding that it showed negligence of Police who permitted uprising in the vicinity.Questioning the capabilities of police official during the meeting Noor Alam Khan said that electricity houses in the area were burnt to ashes saying if the top bros of the police is not capable to handle the law and order situation in the area, must put their resigns.
 
Media needs to devise self-accountability mechanism: Chairman PCP PDF Print E-mail
ISLAMABAD, June 29 (APP): Chairman Press Council of Pakistan Raja Shafqat Abbasi on Friday said that media need to devise a self-accountability mechanism as this practice would add to its credibility.He stated this while addressing the concluding session of two-day national conference on “Media Ethics-Theory and Practices”, organized by the PCP.A large number of foreign dignitaries, civil society representatives,renowned columnists, editor of newspapers, anchor persons of different news channels, members of PCP including APNS, CPNE, PFUJ also attended the two-day conference.Chairman PCP Raja Shafqat Abbasi said that the Council, was expanding its network at local and international levels by establishing linkages with various organizations for collaboration and experience-sharing.He said that the purpose of the two-day conference was to promote and highlight the ethical code and practices within and outside of the media world, adding that in conference, around 24 head of mass communication departments from different universities were participated with their research papers covering the topic, for the new opening, prospects, scopes and horizons of media ethics.
 
Gen John R. Allen visits Pakistan for constructive Military-to-Military talks PDF Print E-mail
RAWALPINDI, June 29 (APP): General John R. Allen, Commander of the International Security Assistance Force who arrived  in Islamabad on June 27 and met with General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff  for constructive military-to-military talks.According a joint statement of Pakistan Army and ISAF issued by Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) here on Friday,  during this visit, the commanders specifically discussed the mutual progress being made to eliminate terrorism, combat extremism and ensure that both Pakistan and Afghanistan’s territory is no longer used as safe haven for cross border attacks. The commanders also discussed current operational realities.This visit helped advance our efforts to achieve the regional stability.The meeting provided us perfect opportunity to refocus our attention on our continuing efforts to eliminate the corrosive effects of extremists operating on both sides of the border, General Allen said.
