ISLAMABAD, Jan 25 (APP): UAE is being considered as a venue for a title fight between Manny Pacquiao and British boxer of Pakistan origin Amir Khan, if the proposed May 2 showdown between Floyd Mayweather and the Filipino ring legend doesn’t happen.

Special patrolling in all sensitive areas in Karachi to be enhanced PDF Print E-mail
ISLAMABAD, May 31 (APP): Special patrolling in all sensitive areas during day and night time would be enhanced while rangers and police would conduct snap checking in Karachi. A high level meeting, co-chaired by Minister for Interior, Rehman Malik and Chief Minister Sindh, Syed Qaim Ali Shah, took various decisions and reviewed law and order and security situation in Sindh especially of Karachi. The meeting was held on the directions of President Asif Ali Zardari and attended by Chief Secretary Sindh, Director General Rangers Sindh and Inspector General of Police, Sindh and other law enforcement agencies. It decided revision of territorial jurisdiction of all police stations in Karachi while creation of sub-police stations in all the sensitive areas.

ISLAMABAD, May 31 (APP): Chairman Intellectual Property Organization (IPO-Pakistan), Hameed Ullah Jan Afridi on Thursday asked international organizations to support Environmentally Sound Technologies (ESTs) to motivate and encourage researchers. He suggested the concept to form “SAARC Environment Forum” to register the demands of most vulnerable countries of south at International Forum besides promoting EST’s in the region. The Pakistani delegation led by Afridi and Member National Assembly was on a visit to Colombo to attend an interactive session of South Asian Association of Regional Cooperation (SAARC) to highlight the core issues relating to environment and Intellectual Property (IP).
 
Punjab-Fars sign MoUs to promote trade PDF Print E-mail
LAHORE, May 31 (APP): Punjab Government and Punjab Board of Investment & Trade (PBIT) Thursday signed MoUs for formalizing collaborative efforts to identify areas of common interests with the Iranian province Fars and Trade Union of Shiraz Chamber of Commerce & Industries and Mines respectively. The MoU signing is in connection with the Iran fair, being organized by PBIT in the city from May 31 to June 2. Speaking on this occasion Governor Fars, Hossein Sadegh Abideen said that Iranian businessmen held useful talks with their business counterparts in Punjab and there is a vast scope of investment for Iranian Businessmen in Punjab. Punjab, he said, can benefit from Iranian expertise in slaughter houses, dairy and juice industry, while Iran can benefit from Pakistan’s textile infrastructure.

ISLAMABAD, May 31 (APP): Federal Minister for Finance, Dr. Abdul Hafeez Shaikh Thursday said that despite domestic and international challenges the economic growth rate stayed positive at 3.7 percent during the fiscal year 2011-12. Addressing a press conference at the launching ceremony of Economic Survey of Pakistan 2011-12, the finance minister said that during the outgoing year, the country's economy was affected by global meltdown, low investments and natural calamities including floods, however, despite all this the economy moved forward.
 
Gilani for taking up hill torrents water management program PDF Print E-mail
ISLAMABAD, May 31 (APP): Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani Thursday directed to launch Hill Torrents Water Management Program and called for construction of purpose-build small dams to store rain water for drinking and irrigation. Talking to Dr. Iftikhar Ahmad, Director General National Agricultural Research Council at the PM House, the Prime Minister directed that Rs 500 million be kept in the Annual Development Plan 2012-13, for the purpose. The Prime Minister called for taking up the program in districts of DG Khan and Rajanpur and said building of small dams would also protect the people and fertile lands from devastation of flash floods, caused due to impact of erratic weather, attributed largely to climate change.
