Army, WAPDA continue dominance in 45th National Athletics C’ship
ISLAMABAD, May 25 (APP): Pakistan Army continued their dominance in men’s events and WAPDA in women events on the second day of 45th National Athletics Championship here at Jinnah Stadium, Pakistan Sports Complex. Army was leading on points table in men’s events with a total of 273 points after having clinched nine gold, ten silver and five bronze medals. Pakistan U-21 men’s hockey squad announced for the Europe tour
ISLAMABAD, May 25 (APP): Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) on Saturday announced a 23-member men’s under 21 squad for the Europe tour as part of its efforts to provide maximum exposure to players before Junior World Cup.  The Junior World Cup will take place in India, from December 5-16.

PCB Chairman’s election holds no validity; Arif Abbasi
KARACHI, May 25 (APP): Former Chief Executive of Pakistan Cricket Board Arif Ali Khan Abbasi firmly believed that without taking all regional and district associations of the country into confidence, Chairman Zaka Ashraf’s elections holds no validity. “Without the support of regional, districts and other stakeholders of  PCB, Chairman’s elections hold no validity,” he said in an interview on Saturday.

Chief of Naval Staff Amateur Golf Cup starts
ISLAMABAD, May 24 (APP):  The Chief of the Naval Staff Amateur Golf Cup  started here at Margalla Greens Golf Club on Friday with contests taking place in three categories - Amateur, Seniors and Juniors. In the Amateur category, MCPO (PTI) Tariq Mehmood of Pakistan Navy was  leading by scoring Gross 72.

Pakistan nominated as host of Squash World Cup-2015
ISLAMABAD, May 24 (APP):  Asian Squash Federation has nominated Pakistan as the sole contender for hosting Squash World Cup, 2015. This recommendation is a testimony of the efforts of Pakistan Squash Federation to convince International Squash Bodies to stage International events in Pakistan. President, Asian Squash Federation, David Mui visited Pakistan during the recently concluded 17th Asian Individual Squash Championship, 2013. He expressed his satisfaction over the meticulous arrangements made for the successful conduct of the Championship, said a PAF press statement issued here on Friday.

ISLAMABAD, Feb 29 (APP): The Executive Board of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in its meeting approved the filing of reference against Chief Engineer ® Public Health of KPK, Alla-ud-Din and others including Rasheed Ahmed Qureshi former Assistant Manager Operation PESCO, former Tehsildar Haripur Sardar Manzoor for committing corruption in their respective departments.The meeting also authorized to hold the inquiry against irregularities committed by the Ex-President National Bank of Pakistan, Ali Raza and other Executives including Dr. Mirza Abrar Baig in NBP in the name of streamlining the Bank operations.

ISLAMABAD, Feb 29 (APP): Election Commission of Pakistan Wednesday announced to display newly prepared electoral rolls at 55,000 display centres countrywide and launched Short Messaging Service (SMS) for verification of voters details.Secretary Election Commission Ishtiak Ahmed Khan informed a news conference that three weeks time has been allocated for registration of votes left out during enumeration, correction of errors and submission of objections to give rolls a final shape by the end of May this year.

GILGIT, Feb 29 (APP): Minister for Interior Rehman Malik on Wednesday said that deployment of police and Frontier Constabulary (FC) had been enhanced to ensure security of passengers traveling at Karakuram Highway (KKH).Addressing a joint press conference with Chief Minister Gilgit-Baltistan Syed Mehdi Shah, he condemned the Kohistan firing incident and said those indulged in this heinous act, have been traced out and would be exposed within a few days.He said the terrorists had not attacked some people but they have attacked on the integrity of Pakistan.
 
Federal Cabinet okays roadmap to normalize trade with India PDF Print E-mail
app30-29infominister-islamabad.jpgISLAMABAD, Feb 29 (APP): The Federal Cabinet on Wednesday approved a roadmap to normalize trade with India by gradually eliminating the list containing 1209 negative items till December 31.Briefing media persons after the 105th Federal Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan said the government  would protect the interests of the local industry.The Cabinet decided in principle to phase out the negative list between the two countries by December 31, 2012, which will complete  the trade normalization process, the minister said.

ISLAMABAD, Feb 29 (APP): Secretary General Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Prof Dr Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, has called for a peaceful settlement of the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the relevant United Nation resolutions and aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.While addressing the main session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva, the OIC Secretary General expressed concerns at the human rights situation in the Indian held Kashmir, according to a statement received here on Wednesday.
