Cricket: Rain delays Pakistan’s clash with Scotland
EDINBURGH, May 19, (APP/AFP) - Pakistan’s one-day international against
Scotland was delayed on Sunday due to a waterlogged playing surface in Edinburgh.
The umpires ordered a 1200GMT pitch inspection at the Grange after
taking a close look at the wicket three times before the scheduled start of play.
Heavy rain in the Scottish capital on Saturday left areas of the
outfield sodden, while there were also worries about the condition of the wicket.

Army wins national women cycling title
LAHORE, May 18 (APP): Pakistan Army won the title of the 10th
national women cycling championship here on Saturday at the cycling velodrome.
Army’s riders added another gold to their previous four to emerge the winners of the three-day premier event held under the supervision of Pakistan Cycling Federation,Munawar Baseer Group.

Recent spot-fixing scandal has tarnished cricket’s image further: ex-players
ISLAMABAD, May 17 (APP): Former Pakistan cricketers feel that the recent spot-fixing scandal that has rocked ongoing Indian Premier has tarnished the image of the game of cricket.
Erstwhile skipper Zaheer Abbas in an interview on Friday said that he was shocked by the scandal involving Indian Test player, Sreesanth and two others—Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan.
“What worries me is that this apparently is just the tip of the iceberg as far as corruption in cricket is concerned. There have always been fears that the IPL was a soft target for bookmakers but no one took this seriously,” he said.

Army wins 9th Korean Ambassador National Taekwondo C’ship
ISLAMABAD, May 17 (APP): Pakistan Army won the 9th Korean Ambassador
National Taekwondo Championship by clinching overall 17 gold, three silver and
two bronze medals on Friday here at Liaquat Gymnasium.
Army secured a total of 507 points. WAPDA remained second with 165 points, securing one gold, six silver and two bronze medals.

National athletics championship dedicated to Zakir Syed
LAHORE, May 17 (APP): Athletics Federation of Pakistan (AFP)
has decided to dedicate the 45th edition of the National Athletics Championship
in the memory of late Syed Zakir Hussain Syed, a former director general of
Pakistan Sports Board.
The premier activity, both for men and women, will be organised May 24 at Jinnah stadium Islamabad and all the affiliated units of the AFP will take part, said a spokesman of AFP here on Friday.
He said late Zakir rendered meritorious services for the cause of sports in the country and the AFP has decided to dedicate the championship to him to acknowledge his valuable contributions as a sports administrative.
“Over 500 athletes belonging to the four provinces, AJ&K, FATA, Gilgit
Baltistan and various services and departments will compete in the three-day sports “, he added.

PIBC lauds Pak, India trade decisions
ISLAMABAD, Sep 29 (APP): The Pak India Business Council (PIBC)
Thursday welcomed the decisions taken during the trade negotiations between the commerce ministers of India and Pakistan in New Delhi.
The PIBC in a meeting held here said that the decisions taken during the negotiations would result in economic and industrial prosperity of both the countries.
The PIBC meeting was presided over by its Chairman Noor Muhammad Kasuri.
Later talking to APP, Noor Muhammad Kasuri termed the Pak-India dialogue a milestone in trade liberalization and for progress and prosperity of peoples of Pakistan and India.

NA body expresses concern over pilfered/dropped of containers within Pakistan
ISLAMABAD, Sept 29 (APP):The National Assembly Standing Committee on
Commerce on Thursday noted with concern that during entire period of Afghan
Transit Trade (ATT) 30,5000 containers crossed the border out of which 52,000
containers of US crossed it.
The meeting of the Committee was held here today, under the chairmanship
of Engineer Khurram Dastgir Khan, MNA/ Chairman of Standing Committee on Commerce.
The details of 19,000 containers is yet to be ascertained,says a press
release issued by the National Assembly Secretariat today.

‘APC a symbol of nation’s unity for national security’
ISLAMABAD, Sep 29 (APP): The All Parties Conference (APC) will prove a founding basis for the Pakistani nation to get united on the issue of national security, defence and political analysts said Thursday.
Analyst Dr Raffat Hussain believes that the APC that gathered political leadership from across the country, would the nation forge unity on crucial national matters.
The APC is a part of Pakistan’s policy to show the world that the nation is united on issue of national importance, Dr Hussain told APP.

Machine Readable Passport facility inaugurated in UAE
ABU DHABI, Sep 29 (APP): Pakistan’s Ambassador to United Arab Emirates (UAE) Jamil Ahmed Khan said provision of Machine Readable Passport (MRP) facility in UAE is part of efforts to make available best quality services to expatriate Pakistanis.
The ambassador stated this while inaugurating the newly constructed Machine Readable Hall in Pakistan Embassy here Thursday afternoon.
Jamil Ahmed said the main objective during his tenure in the UAE, is to address all issues of Pakistani community.

Pakistan-Turkey joint exercise to strengthen military relationship: GOC SSG
RAWALPINDI, Sep 29 (APP): The closing ceremony of a weeklong Pakistan-Turkey joint training exercise ATTATURK-VII-2011 was held at Cherat on Thursday.
Major General Farrukh Bashir, General Officer Commanding Special ServicesGroup (SSG) was the chief guest on the occasion.
According to ISPR here on Thursday, Major General Farrukh Bashir congratulated the Officers and Soldiers of Turkish Special Forces and SSG of Pakistan Army on successful completion of this joint training.
