UNSC urges international support for Iraqi government’s combat against insurgents -
UNITED NATIONS, Sept 20 (APP): The Security Council Friday strongly condemned attacks by terrorist organizations, including the Islamic State, also known as ISIS and ISIL, and urged member states to assist the Iraqi Government’s efforts to combat militants and implement its new political agenda.

UNITED NATION, Sept 19 (APP): The UN’s top human rights official Friday urged Egypt and other North African and European states to help bring to justice the people smugglers who allegedly deliberately sank a boat causing the deaths of hundreds of refugees and migrants in last week’s “truly horrendous incident” in the Mediterranean.

UNITED NATIONS, Sept 19 (APP): The United Nations Security Council  Thursday night declared the Ebola outbreak in West Africa a threat to peace and security, as Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon announced that the U.N. will deploy a new emergency health mission to combat one of most horrific diseases on the planet that has shattered the lives of millions.

UNITED NATIONS, Sept 18 (APP): There is "quite simply no better way forward" other than a unity government in Afghanistan, U.N. envoy Jan  Kubis told the Security Council from Kabul in his final briefing in that capacity.



Some 22 million displaced by natural disasters in 2013: UN-backed report -
UNITED NATIONS, Sept 18 (APP): A new U.N.-backed report launched Thursday reveals that 22 million people worldwide were displaced in 2013 by disasters sparked largely by earthquakes or climate-and weather-related events, almost three times more than by conflict in the same year.

WASHINGTON, May 6 (APP):  A feast of color and music at the Pakistani embassy provided a perfect opportunity for Pakistanis and Americans to foster mutual understanding as they enjoyed some of the popular Pakistani songs and cuisine.While visitors, who thronged the culturally bedecked Pakistani embassy Saturday liked the ‘Bhangra’ music, officials from the two sides also sounded upbeat on the power of people-to-people interaction, as the two sides endeavor to move the stalled relationship forward.“Today, the massive response of the people clearly shows that the people want to know about Pakistan,” Asad M Khan, Pakistan’s Deputy Chief of mission, said.“Our country is not about bullets and bombs (as portrayed in some parts of the media ) --- it is a much more vibrant culture --- it has a lot to offer to the world”, he said.
